Lusi Sulfura guest art

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Iain Laurie works primarily in ink and nightmares and is responsible for the howling freakshow known as Powwkipsie.

I asked Iain to draw a guest pinup of my demonic character Lusi Sulfura.  And he did.

My brother also makes pretty pictures like what I do, under the name Devil City Design.

His new website is finally online. GAZE UPON IT.

The lamp! Throw me the lamp!

Jamie Hewlett does homeware.  There is nothing about that idea that I don’t like.

Who wants to buy me one?

Frank Frazetta

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

So, Frank Frazetta’s dead.  Not really my kind of scene any more but as a kid he had a huge impact on me.   He always stood head and shoulders over every other sword n sorcery artist, and even if you’re not a fan of the subject matter you can’t deny the man’s talent and enormous influence.  R.I.P.

Dear Jamie Hewlett

Please stop making everyone else with a pencil and a 3d package feel like a complete chump.

Thanks,

Alan

Jamie Smart

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

This is a comic by Jamie Smart - creator of the Bear comic and Fat Chunk anology - about the recent death of his Dad.  It’s funny and sad and painful and brilliant.  Read it.

See more of Jamie’s work here and here.

Alex Ronald

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Alex Ronald is a Scottish artist that used to draw Judge Dredd (and a bunch of other strips) for 2000AD.  These days he freelances as a concept artist while working full-time in the CG industry, and is really, really bloody marvellous at drawing stuff.  He is also an entertaining guy to drink heavily with.

Check out his blog here and bask in the awesome backlit glow.

Incidentally, the peak of his career to date  (I’m sure he would agree) is surely this strip from a certain feline-themed webcomic.

Wasted vs the Niallist

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Wasted comic has a nice little viral video ad for issue 2, featuring my Lusi Sulfura cover quite heavily…

The tune is by Glasgow’s premier electro disco hip hop kingpin, the Niallist.  He’s a driving force behind the brain melt of Little Rock Records, and his first music video is right here.  F-F-F-FRESH.

Powwkipsie

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Powwkipsie is a sporadic webcomic by the thing known only as Iain Laurie.  It’s  a heavily disturbing body-horror acid trip of a comic and feels a little like a catastrophic psychotic meltdown.

I think the latest episode is Iain’s masterpiece to date.  Check it out and despair. Just don’t expect to feel good about yourself afterwards.

Damn thee, Motionographer

Friday, December 11th, 2009

So I discovered motionographer this week, an animation blog/showcase which is simultaneously incredibly inspiring and unbelievably humbling in a depressing, why-even-f*cking-bother kind of way.

Working my way through their archives now.  Here’s a couple of my faves… so far.
