Wasted issue 2 now on sale

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Wasted issue 2 is apparently now on sale…. a 68-page, full colour humor comic anthology, issue 2 is a big leap forward in both content and production values from issue 1.  As the official spiel states,

Simon Bisley - Frank Quitely - Jon Haward - Alan Grant: you’ve seen them handle Batman, Superman and Judge Dredd. Now see how they handle humour! WASTED is a new, full-colour, 68-page anthology quarterly from Bad Press Ltd. With strips like “War On Drugs”, “Lust In Space” and “Waccy Baccy Races” - plus at least 20 others - comics guru Brendan McCarthy says: “Wasted is the best new comic since Deadline!” And Brendan has never been known to be wrong! OVER 18s ONLY!

Order it from the Bad Press website or buy it from any good comic shop.

Issue 2 features the Lusi Sulfura cover I posted a while back, which is also included in the mag as a nice big centre spread poster for your wall.  Also included is a 7-page Lusi comic, “no time for pugilistic chivalry”, the first 3 glorious pages of which you can check out below as a taster.

Also, John Freeman at the comic news blog Down The Tubes, says:

Alan Kerr’s superb Lusi Sulfura - surely a character of Tank Girl and Nemi cult potential - is a wonderful gem.

I fear history may reveal this to be insane hyperbole, but it’s still nice to hear.

Interview at Comic News Insider

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

As part of the release of Fat Chunk issue 2, the comics anthology featuring Kreepy Kat, I did a wee interview for the Comic News Insider podcast.

I talk a little bit about Fat Chunk, Kreepy, Lusi Sulfura and zombies.  Which is pretty much all I talk about anyway.

Check it out here.

Fat Chunk #2 - ZOMBIES

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

My bastard Kreepy Kat is featured in a brand new 2-page adventure in the new issue of the anthology comic Fat Chunk, published by Slave labor Graphics and curated by the drunken evil genius known to mortal men as Jamie Smart.

Below is some more information in Mr. Smart’s very own, semi-coherant words.  Bless him.

Great news! Fat Chunk Volume Two - Zombies is out now!

(there’s been a little confusion. I’d been informed it was delayed till next week, but i know it’s also appearing in some stores already. So perhaps some places will be getting it next week, but for the most part I think I can announce it as OUT NOW.)

Please spread the word and tell everyone that your lovely lovely work is in it!  Fat Chunk Volume Two includes work by over 60 artists crammed into just under 140 pages, all in a tidy digest size. Well known comic artists, new webcomic creators, toy designers and everyone else in between, from every corner of the globe, each contributing their own twisted take on the world of Zombiedom! Published by SLG Publishing, available to buy from your local comic shop (Diamond code APR090632), book shop, or from amazon etc!

More sketches - 17/6/09

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Too busy with my MPhil animation to be doing much artwork just now, but here’s some more rough sketches just to keep the blog ticking…

This week, I’m obsessing over the disgustingly talented McBess.  His music’s good, his illustrations are great and his animations are phenomenal. God damn him.

KABOOM!

A new pic I did over the weekend to try some stuff out.  Obviously heavily influenced (i.e. ripped off of) this pic by Sam Mckenzie.  Yes, I am stalking the fellow.

It’s also a logical extension of some of my older work as well though - stuff like this and this, and my early (ropey) Lusi Sulfura artwork.

More sketch geekery

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

A couple more geek-out fan sketches, both from the sci-fi comic anthology 2000ad, which had a huge impact on me as a kid.

First up, Nemesis the Warlock, a morally ambivalent Alien anti-hero.  Second, Rogue Trooper, a genetically engineered future soldier.  This version of the character is taken from the brilliant War Machine reimagining of the character in the 90’s by Dave (Watchmen) Gibbons and Will Simpson, which revamped the character from adolescent boys-own adventure stories into a more adult, bleak and ultraviolent future war story, and is one of the most criminally underread and underrated comics I’ve ever seen.  Quick word of warning though, only read the original War Machine story - every subsequent story (all by different creative teams) was pretty weak.

I was originally hoping to finish off the Rogue Trooper sketch into something complete but I don’t know if I’ll find the time any time soon.  I’ll hopefully be posting more finished pics and fewer sketches over the next couple of weeks.
